Hello,
Me and my partner are students at university. We are living in a student house and have just found out we are expecting our first child. We want to get out of the tenancy agreement early because it’s due to end in June and I’m due on the 21st June leaving us no time to leave and find another house. We have tried coming to an agreement but they will not accept it. There must be some rule on pregnant students being able to get out of the contract if it isn’t suitable for their needs? Any help?

so the house is owned by a landlord not the university itself?
5 years agoIt’s on the uni website accommodation section where they have a list of university approved landlords
5 years agoI believe (check your tenancy agreement though) that if you find a replacement tenant(s) who will pay the same (or above) of your rent you can be let out of the tenancy agreement early.
5 years agoWouldn't imagine agreements have pregnancy provisions. So it's down to what the agreement says, what you can negotiate or what you think you can get away with if you default.

If the property is owned by the university they may treat this as an exceptional case. If its a private landlord they don't need to release you from the tenancy and may be very unlikely to do so - they would be unlikely to get other students at this time of year, certainly to cover two people in the same house.
Sorry thats not what you want to hear. Your best chance may be to find replacement tenants yourself.
